About Us

populace1The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century civilization.  Our “Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more.  Our “royalty” hold courts at which they recognize and honor members for their contributions to the Society and their Kingdom.  Most importantly, the SCA is not the same thing as a Renaissance Faire because it is participatory. There is no audience.  Every person plays a part in creating the atmosphere.  Throughout the Kingdom, there are weekly meetings (sometimes called “fighter practices”) and “events” (get-togethers where costumes are required) nearly every weekend.  Some feature armored combat tournaments and feasts, some are orchestrated around Middle Ages pomp and circumstance (audiences or “Courts” conducted by Royalty), while others focus on learning more about particular crafts.

The Barony of Ered Sul generally encompasses members and participants in the area of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona and is a part of the Kingdom of Atenveldt in the SCA organization.
